Care tips
Leather is a natural material with small variations that changes over time and ages gracefully. This natural process adds character to your bag, which is designed to last for generations. With proper care, the leather will develop a unique patina that only becomes more beautiful with time.
We hope you enjoy your Becksöndergaard bag and take good care of it.
Leather
To extend the life of your product, we recommend using an impregnation spray before use and regularly thereafter. We also recommend treating the leather with a leather balm to add moisture and keep it flexible and soft. Test the balm on an inconspicuous area, as different leather qualities may react differently to treatment. Remove stains from your leather items with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Never use large amounts of water, as this may result in stains or discoloration. Avoid moisture and rain, but if your bag gets wet, dry it immediately with a dry cloth and allow it to dry naturally at room temperature.
Some leather types require special care, such as suede and eel skin.
Suede
Give your suede items extra attention. Suede is an elegant natural material characterized by its soft and brushed surface with open fibers, which require special care to maintain their beautiful appearance.
Caring for your suede bag
To ensure your suede bag stays in good condition for as long as possible, we recommend impregnation before use, attention to color transfer, and regular care.
Impregnation: You should impregnate your suede bag before use and repeat regularly. Ensure that the impregnation is suitable for suede. This helps protect the bag from moisture and dirt. Do not use leather balm, as it is intended for smooth leather and sealed surfaces.
Color transfer
Suede is an open leather where the fibers and color are not sealed with a surface finish, like regular leather. Be aware that there may be excess color, which can result in color transfer during use. We recommend wearing clothes in a similar shade as the bag the first few times you use it. Avoid contact with water, as the color may transfer more easily in damp conditions. Suede can gradually fade when exposed to sunlight. Note that suede may release lint from the brushed surface, which can be removed with a lint roller.
Care and maintenance
Suede is leather with a raised surface. With use, suede may become smooth and shiny. You can restore the surface with a special suede brush to regain the suede look. Use a suede brush to remove dust and spray the product regularly with a colorless leather spray to make it more water- and dust-resistant.
Eel skin
Store your eel skin products away from sunlight and heat, as the delicate surface may lose color or become damaged. If your eel skin product gets wet, wipe it with a damp cloth and use a hairdryer on low heat and power to dry the leather.
